If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants - Isaac Newton, letter to Robert Hooke in 1676 (age 34)
Leaders are people who influence a group of other people toward the achievement of a goal. Leaders work towards the goal while putting people first. Leadership cannot exist without people.
What to know to liberate your inner leader
1. Listen to your gut
Use data to evaluate decisions but do not dismiss your gut. Be curious about those inner thoughts and what they have to say. Get out of your comfort zone, this is actually easy to say but hard to do. Mainly because it is scary but it will be completely worthwhile, do it scared. Remember your team trusts you to do right by them.
2. It is not your job to be right.
It does not matter who is right, what matters is what is right. Winning arguments may feel good but it is not good for the morale of the team. You need to focus on the long-term goal.
3. Have difficult conversations.
Talk about the elephants in the room, e.g if there is tension and negativity between team members. This makes it a regular problem, that can easily be solved.
4. Define your story
We all have different points of view in regards to what we have faced especially the challenges. As leaders, we should focus on making the most out of situations and being able to learn from each and every opportunity to be better, this, in turn, results in positive output which is good for the team. Remember a team is as good as its leader.
