In a world filled with everything wrong and disgrace. Moral standards declining as we make advancements in technology, how ironic. How everything taught to us that was wrong becoming right because everyone is doing it. How dignity has become something to be disgraced and whoever chooses to do right is condemned by the majority who see all wrong things to be right.
Not to mention our social media crisis. Where everybody strives to be the first in whatever they do, not only that but in conveying information. Whether it’s wrong or right, not caring if it hurts someone else, as long as you have put it out there, then that’s all that matters.
In a place where there is unfettered access to information and people are being mediocre and it’s acceptable.
Where decent clothing has become a rare case scenario. Where we do not care where we put our trash because “there are people for that” concept. Where being courteous is something unheard of. Where people do not really consider reading books, or walking to parks to just meditate or call a friend and talk about what’s really going on in their lives in person instead of talking behind screens.
A place where people are rushed by other people’s timelines and measured by other people’s measuring tapes. Doing what they do not love or desire. Being respected and honoured because of net worth despite being a non-contributor to society’s growth. Chasing frivolous pursuits instead of chasing things that make a difference. You owe it to yourself and to your creator to fulfil as Oprah puts it “the highest, truest expression of yourself as a human being. The promise that the creator dreamed the cells that make up you.”
You owe yourself happiness and doing the right thing regardless of who is watching or the situation at hand. You owe service to others because we leave a legacy by serving the needs of others without the expectation of receiving anything in return. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “not everyone can be famous but everyone can be great, because greatness is determined by service, you only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.”
Tell the truth, do good deeds, make yourself and everybody you love proud. Do things that build the society at large. Offer help to those in need. Be there to support your friends and family and most of all take care of each other. Be careful not to overstep. “Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves”, Matthew 10:16b.And remember, “All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law. And all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law will be declared righteous. ”Romans 2:12-13.
Be the change you want to see in others. It all starts with the person staring right back at you on the mirror.
